Always go back for the camera! - not a Johnny Depp story...

The last thing I did before leaving the house this morning was look over and notice my camera sitting there. Something inside me said, "Go back and get it!" Did I do it? NO!!!!

ALWAYS listen to that little voice...

As I was driving to work this morning I saw a little blur on the pavement in front of me. I rubbed my eyes to make sure I wasn't seeing things (I was pretty tired) and as I got closer I saw it was a momma duck with her babies trailing behind her! This was a fairly busy road, and quite some distance from the river, so I definitely was not expecting to see that...

A white truck coming from the opposite direction zoooomed by us, oooohhhh nooooo! But mom wasn't hit, not was she deterred. The next car, nice lady in red, did stop and the two of us held up traffic till they safely passed = ) That made me feel sooo good all day long. When they reached the other side safely, we drove off, but not before looking at each other and smiling and waving... I'm pretty sure it made her day too!

OH! and the coolest thing was that they were crossing in a cross walk = ) That's why I was kicking myself for not listening to that little voice telling me to go back for the camera!

ALWAYS go back for the camera!!!!! = )

shakenbsis, you quack me up! :) That was so cute and it does make a person feel good. Way to go! Same for the "nice lady in red."

LOL! I had a friend who did the same exact thing on a busy city street in Milwaukee many years ago. And I would do the same as either of you. After all, I dodge frogs and butterflies when I'm driving.

Awwwwwww!

You guys are so sweet = )
I had to take a day off from Bloggerville and camp out in the 'real' world yesterday! UGHH!

HA!! It's so much nicer over here...

Osh said it best -- we Mamas have to stick together. :) I have learned many times the "bring the camera" lesson.

I'm learning from you Michelle! = )

Heeeee! I love that = )

Hey Michelle, I don't know if you get these updates or not, but if you do, how is your kitty?? I was thinking about (him/her?) all day.

Gosh, if I ever need a self-esteem boost, I just need to come over here! Thanks, ladies.

S'bis, thanks for asking. Things aren't good. He's having exploratory surgery tomorrow, but the vet thinks it could be liver cancer. He'd been acting pretty ok until this afternoon/tonight but then took a big turn downward. I am not sure he'll make it through the night or not. :(

The hardest part is Julia. She is old enough to know what is going on, but she knows nothing of death yet. I kind of wanted to wait to have that talk with her. Tonight, she hugged the cat, said "Monty, it's ok, we make you all better." Oooh, she tugs my heart. Lots of tears after she went to bed. My innocent girl, you know?

Bah, sorry to get all deep but I do appreciate you asking.

Wow Michelle,

my heart really goes out to you, I'll be praying for a miracle for you. It would be a shame to have to have that talk yet...

thanks for filling me in...

Ohhhhh, first the ducks and I'm smiling, and now Monty and I'm crying, and then I think of Johnny Bopp and I'm smiling again.

You ladies all seem so compassionate and caring, and I love hearing all of this!

Thanks for saving the duckies, and best of luck with the kitty. And yes, mamas got to stick together.

Thank you so much. Your prayers must have worked, because he perked up last night and even ate a little bit! I am happy about that. I realize we're still in a bad situation, but watching him starve himself was more than I could take.

S'bsis, as an adoptive mom I know you understand this so well, but some of the reason that this is extra hard for me about Julia is that when a child has been adopted, you recognize and honor the fact that they have sustained losses in their life. She will have to come to terms with those losses along the way, so "loss" in any form is a concept that tugs at my heart even more, you know? I am tired and not articulating well, but hopefully that makes sense.

Ha Kathy, Johnny Bopp is becoming my girl's trademark! BTW, I've been meaning to mention that I have a blog as well... it's about Julia. It's invite only though, so if you're interested in reading send me an email at pbhgirl at gmail dot com. :)

And thanks for letting me make this "all about me" for a while. Sheesh, I'll stop taking over your comments section now!

Take over any day Michelle...

Yes, I know exactly what you mean about their 'losses' I am getting choked up jsut thinking about it (and about the horrors my girls have seen in their short lives too) It seems you are doing a fantastic job of raising your little Julia in a safe and secure environment.

Thanks for sharing that Michelle...

My e-mail is on it's way! = ) I saw your blog, but I hesitated to ask because I know these things can be so private, thanks so much, I am so very interested.

Hey Kathy,

How many young'uns have you got? I'm thinking three in my mind but did I imagine this?

I loved your post about getting them to help you in the yard = )

THANKS Jenny!

I'm having a hard time paying attention to the blogs tonight (trying to come up with a new soup recipe)

New to this whole blog. But loved the duck story. I live in Columbus and am constantly halting traffic to let the little guys cross the road. I have heard you can get a ticket if you hit one. Not sure if its true. But it should be!

shakenbsis said...

thanks for stopping by katy! you are right, it should be! =)

awwhhh... how cute! I like your story...especially the part about listening to that little voice that we too often ignore.
What a great feeling we get when we stop to help the helpless, whether animal or human. : )
